Synopsis:
Peter Egli, the Swiss CEO of VedaLogic,
envisions new applications for artificial
intelligence that will solve humanity’s most vexing
problems. A Buddhist monastery and a doctorate
in mathematics from Princeton shape his mind
for a broad scientific search that leads to a
significant discovery of how the quantum field,
evolution and the human mind are connected. It
provides the secret key to super-computer
technology destined to prove Quantum Field
Theory, bring peace to Palestine and reveal God’s
divine plan. Once a genius with unlimited
resources assembles a select group of Jewish
scientists in Israel, a discovery that will change
the course of human history is the most probable
outcome.

Peter’s private life strangely intertwines with
recurring patterns of religious intolerance. Islamic
terror that, out of context, seems like madness is
revealed to be the Dharma, the invisible truth.
While the slightest flutter of butterfly wings in the
Amazon Delta can change the weather in
Chicago, it takes senseless murder, bombs in
Jerusalem and the tumbling of the Word Trade
Center to change Peter Egli.

Deity is the story of a brilliant man who is not
willing to accept second-hand knowledge from
scripture as a satisfactory explanation for our
human existence. The ultimate answer he finds to
our questions is not the one he was looking for.
Author’s Notes:

To understand the essence of this novel, you need to accept that we know nothing for certain. The
memories of your brain seem to offer proof of a world that you can see, feel, hear, smell and touch,
which leads to a variety of paradoxical scientific and superstitious religious concepts to explain our
human experience of a self within our mind, often referred to as a soul.

This novel takes the reader on a journey through religious history and natural science and in the
process raises new and interesting questions about both. Sizzling erotic passages, frank
discussions of human psychology and blasphemous insinuations about religious concepts
provide a perfect opportunity to disagree with every single paragraph, proposition and opinion.

Immanuel Kant said:
‘Audere Sapere!’ or ‘Dare to Know!’

I started to write this - my first - book more than seven years ago, but I wrote most of it in the spring
of 2003. It was then published as “The Deity.” Being my first try at writing a novel, it was a tough
read, full of religious, scientific and political narrative.
When I wrote “The Deity,” I felt at the time that there were more stories to be told around the
subject of a spiritual substance related to quantum field physics, call it the soul if you want. My
second novel, “Journey To Eden,” developed as a parallel story and is not a typical sequel. Thus,
there will be a third book, which has already been written in my mind. I just have to put it on paper. I
now call this the “Spirit in the Quantum Field” trilogy.
Much of my perspective on God and religion is shaped by the time I lived in the Middle East in the
80’s. Upon my return I was certain that the Middle East and the West were heading for a
confrontation of some kind. 9/11 was, however, much worse a consequence than I ever thought
could happen. I did however predict in 1984 that the West would invade the Middle East.
I do predict now – as I do in this book - that worse is yet to come.

The scientific principles related to General Relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory, artificial
intelligence and psychology as used in “Deity,” are presented as accurately as possible, but
obviously deviate from accepted science for the sake of the story and sprinkled with my own ideas
of a Global Unified Theory here and there.

Passages that seem to have an anti-American-Semitic-Islamic tone do not convey my personal
convictions, but only mirror many of the current sentiments around the globe. It would be
worthwhile for all sides to wonder why these exist - or, even better, to consider how they could be
changed. For each of these sentiments there is in most cases an underlying cause and all we try
to correct is their effects. It is our rationality that keeps us from understanding the why and it is this
rationality that leads to terrorism.
